Upon its completion the New Guangzhou Passenger Railway Station (Xin Kezhan) will form one of the "four hinges" of China in combination with Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station and Guangzhou North Railway Station (Huadu Railway Station).
The new station will be located in Panyu District, to be completed in late 2009. It is slated as a "high speed" railway station, with train speeds approaching 250 km/h.
It has also been designed as a working connection with nearby transportation outlets for the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. According to the plan, the function of this new station is distinguished from the Guangzhou Railway and Guangzhou East Railway Stations. Instead, it will be in charge of trains from the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Passenger Rail Line, the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Rail and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Rail. In addition, the new railroad will be constructed as a viaduct for environmental protection.
