More than 20 outbound flights were delayed at the Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou from noon until evening yesterday. Some 3, 000 passengers were stranded.
The massive delay was due to traffic control and plane rotation problems at various airports in eastern China as well as at the Baiyun Airport. The affected flights were bound for Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Nanchang and Dalian.
When flight schedules would return to normal was still not clear last night. Airliners advised that outbound passengers should call their flight providers, the airport ticketing office at 8613 0088, or the flight inquiry hotline at 3606 6999 for relevant information.
