Relics excavated from an 800-year-old merchant boat will be on display at Beijing's Palace Museum in May, the Beijing Evening News reported.

The merchant boat, dubbed Nanhai No. 1, or "South China Sea No. 1," was raised from the 30-meter depths of the South China Sea by a crane last December.

Archeologists have discovered a variety of antiques and a heavy cache of chinaware on Nanhai No.1.

The chinawares were new merchandise bound for export to foreign countries when the boat sank. Because the boat was submerged quickly, many of the salvaged items are free from damage, and look as new as if they were just pulled out of the kiln.
