The design for the planned Guangzhou Maritime Museum has been reviewed and accepted by an expert panel. Construction will kick off after the design is approved by Guangzhou's Huangpu District Government, with completion scheduled for next year. Members of the Huangpu District Political Consultative Conference have suggested to the district government that artifacts from the ancient South Sea II ship be exhibited in the future museum to increase its appeal.
According to district cultural authorities, the museum will be based on a 6000 square meter land plot west of the south gate of the Temple of South Sea God. The museum will showcase artifacts uncovered from the ancient Maritime Silk Route in Guangzhou since 2000, as well as exhibits about the city's trade development history.
Authorities are also seeking artifacts for permanent exhibition in the museum.
Zoning and land requisition for the museum have been completed, and the project is in smooth progress, with completion scheduled for next year.
